Welcome Back

The 2016-17 school year is under way and WPA has had a GREAT start to the school year!  Welcome to all of our new scholars and welcome back to our returning scholars.  Scholars and Teachers alike have expressed excitement and passion toward returning to school.

With a focus on Academic Achievement and targeted accelerated growth in Math, we are aiming to outperform the surrounding counties not only in Reading, but also in Math this year!

Flexible Regrouping & First Class

Wayne Preparatory Academy’s Academic Model revolves around the commitment to teach scholars at their instructional level.  To this point, WPA engages in flexible regrouping that results in scholars transitioning classrooms (and teachers) based on the competency level of the scholar and the classroom course.

This week every grade level worked on additional placement validation for our scholars.  This process allowed us to take into account new scholar placement as well as adjust returning scholar placement.  As result of this process we have adjusted scholar placement for Math and Reading which affected scholar’s First Class/Homeroom.  This information has been sent home to parents from each grade level.  At any point if parents have questions please don’t hesitate to contact the Grade Level Lead or Dean.

Where did my homeroom go?

By now you have probably noticed that WPA no longer uses the term Homeroom.  Instead we refer to the classroom that scholars report to in the morning as First Class.  This change is directly tied to our 2016-17 Academic Improvement Plan.  To maximize instructional time for our scholars, we have assigned their first period math class as their reporting classroom or “First Class.”  This reduces lost time from our March to Math transition.  This also means that there may be opportunity throughout the year for a scholar’s First Class to change based on our flexible regrouping model.  Anytime a change in placement occurs due to flexible regrouping scholars and parents will be notified.

Mastering the Drive Line

On opening day in August 2014 with 230 scholars our pick-up procedure took 1:45 minutes.  On our second day of school in August 2016 with over 600 scholars our pick-up procedure took 0:57 minutes.  We have made huge strides toward streamlining this process and appreciate your patience as we continue to develop solutions to make this process even faster.  To help you have the most positive driveline experience adhere to the following:
