MidYear Academic Report – WPA Exceeds Expectations!

At the February 28, 2017 Board Meeting Dr. Forgette presented staggering achievement results for WPA from Fall to Winter.  WPA has made more progress this year from Fall to Winter than any other year.  The focus on Data Driven Instruction, In-class Instructional Coaching, and Classroom Culture has truly paid off.  Dr. Forgette further shared that there was a round of applause at the last staff meeting as the entire school reviewed the data.  There is a lot more work to be done moving forward – teachers and scholars must remain focused on learning.  However, the data reviewed during the February Meeting was quite encouraging!  Great job WPA Teachers and Faculty!  Keep up the GREAT work.

Fundraisers Positively impact the school & Greater community

From Valentine Candy Grams to the Pancake Fundraiser and Jump Rope For Heart – WPA Scholars and Families came together to support WPA and the Heart Association in a BIG way!

Fundraising Support Breakdown:

    • Raised approximately $750
    • Directly Impacts Technology Initiative & EC Department
  • Pancake Fundraiser:

    • Raised over $3,000.00
    • Directly Impacts Technology Initiative
    • Ordered 60 brand new chrome books for WPA Scholars (2 full computer labs) when combined with WPA technology budget
  • Jump Rope for Heart

    • Raised over $14,000.00
    • Directly Impacts the Heart Association
This year the WPA Exceptional Children’s department ran Valentine Candy Grams.  The team had a lot of fun organizing orders and delivering the suckers.  Special thanks to Mrs. Diane James and Mrs. Kim Court for taking the lead on such a fun activity!

The Pancake Fundraiser was another big hit in February.  WPA Leadership, staff, and families all helped out to serve over 800 families on Sunday.  The 9:15a hour was the most popular for ticket holders and resulted in the need for WPA Staff to “glove up” and get cooking.  Dr. Forgette and Mr. Preskitt ended up in the kitchen with the serving crew (primarily Kindergarten staff and the “fearless” Ms. Angel Duncan) flipping pancakes!  Focused on supporting WPA’s technology initiative the pancake fundraiser will impact our purchase of 60 new scholar computers as it raised over $3,000.00.

Last year for Jump Rope for Heart WPA brought in over $14,000.00 – and was recognized as the top school in all of Wayne County for donations.  This year we achieved that goal again.  Raising over $14,000.00.  WPA once again is being reviewed for top school donation in Wayne County.

WPA Leadership took pies to the face to to celebrate scholars that raised the most money.  Dr. Forgette was unusually absent from the celebration due to travel.  Special thanks to Mr. Preskitt, Mrs. Maple, Ms. Thomas, and Ms. Freer for stepping in!
