Informational Text

In week two of summer school we focused on informational texts. We covered several information texts about frogs and toads. We analyzed text and tackled standard 3.RI.9, Compare and contrast the most important points and key details presented. Scholars enjoyed our hands on project with a focus on adjectives and character traits [3.RL.3 Describe characters in a story (e.g., their traits, motivations, or feelings) and explain how their actions contribute to the sequence of events..]

In Week 1 and Week 2 of summer school Standard 3.RI.5,  Use text features and search tools (e.g., key words, sidebars, hyperlinks) to locate information relevant to a given topic efficiently, has been introduced, taught, and practiced. We will continue to practice this standard daily as it is necessary to successfully answer questions in 3rd grade reading passages, texts, and even EOG questions. Mrs. James has introduced using “text evidence” to support understand/answering questions relating to text passages. We will continue to expect scholars to use text evidence throughout summer school when answering questions from reading passages.

Minute to Win It!

Our Minute to win it activities have been a hit with the scholars. These activities are fun but have a purpose. We are encouraging students throughout the day to never give up. Even if a reading passage looks difficult, TRY. Some of our minute to win it games have been more difficult than they seem, however once they try and keep with it; it becomes easier. Our focus is to encourage and have fun with our scholars with these  games and teach a valuable lesson at the same time.
